Oh yes, I forgot to mention a few things that I was going to add to the post earlier.
Firstly, it turns out that the invention of TV is directly attributable to the Idaho Potato industry. Obviously.
Apparently Philo Farnsworth had already envisaged television (at age 14 or something equally ridiculous) but couldn’t figure out how to transmit the picture from one place to another. It was while working on his uncle’s potato farm in Idaho that the ploughed rows of planting made him think of lines of electrons and this gave him the idea of dissecting the image line by line.
So I did learn something at the Potato Museum.
Never underestimate the power of the spud!
Also, on the off chance that anyone reading this happens to be in Idaho in the future, I thought I would flag up a fun place to stay.
Yes! You can stay in a potato. Sadly I did not discover this until a few days ago. It’s just outside Boise which is nowhere near my route, but I think we all know that I would happily of diverted several hundred miles to stay here if it hadn’t been fully booked! Probably for the best…
I think that young Farnsworth was confusing TV scan lines with slicing crisps (chips to him)!
